Ford Galaxy Mark 1 (1995-2000)

We all know the first Ford Galaxy was actually designed as a joint venture vehicle between Ford, Volkswagen and Seat. All three vehicles were produced and manufactured in Portugal, the end product was engineered to create three MPV’s: the Ford Galaxy,Volkswagen Sharan and by SEAT Alhambra.

The mechanical solution was mainly provided by Volkswagon with the 1.9 litre Turbocharged Direct Injection turbodiesel unit and the 2.8 litre V6 (VR6) petrol engine,  To start only the 2.0 litre  petrol version used a Ford powerplant derived from the Ford DOHC engine. later  this was complimented with the 2.3 litre 16-valve version first seen in the Ford Scorpio.

All of the VW Group-sourced engines were supplied with “Ford” badges on the rocker covers, despite being VW Group designs. All automatic transmissions were VW Group AG4 boxes, All manual gearboxes were fitted with the VXT75  one of Fords trusted gearboxes for the transverse engine layout.

The main interior used a mix of both Volkswagon and Ford ideas and trademark, the curved facias known to most ford owners was in your face while the instuments where that you would expect from the Volkswagon or more predominently the Golf.

Ford Galaxy MK2

A redesign in 2000 saw the Galaxy move away form its  itself from the Volkswagen and Seat look and instead adopted the Ford keymark front end and the internal design benefited from a new dash, utilising high-quality materials and a design comparible to that of the third-generation Ford Mondeo which was  introduced at a similar time as the new Galaxy.

Newer engines were available across the range, the newer 24v VR6, along with VW Group’s Pumpe-Duse (PD) TDI engines available in 90 bhp (only on LX models), 115 bhp, 130 bhp, and 150 bhp forms, these were matched to a six-speed manual transmission, a four-speed automatic transmission with manual sequential shift , and a five-speed automatic transmission however the automatic gearboxes were only available on 115.

Ford Galaxy Forum

The ford galaxy owners club and community has been revamped, We have decided to update the front end of the site as the forum seems to get all the visitors.

The ford galaxy owners club and forum has been established for over ten years and the community has grown from strength to strength with a vast array of technical knowledge from its users not to mention the general fun, games and banter.

The ford galaxy owners club and community has had its fair share of ups and downs with upgrades to servers and software  over the years, in the early days a total of 3 years of posts were lost due to the fact that the old forum software was not compatible with the new forum database at the time.

What has made the ford galaxy owners club so successful over the years? I would say dedicated members when the Ford Galaxy first come out, this is when the owners needed help, there was no support from ford or should I say ford would say this is not known to us, which i suppose on a product launch it wouldn’t be and as usual there would be a little bit of denial.

The ford galaxy owners club grew very fast within the first 6 months and has never stopped growing.

A big thank you to all the members past and present and may the ford galaxy owners club grow from strength to strength.
