I have put my CD player from my galaxy that was written off and pit it into my galaxy I have just purchased, the problem is that the stereo won't turn on or off with the ignition, only via the on off switch on the stereo it's self, I've tried changing the red and yellow over but still nothing, is there someway to get it working with the ignition?
Cheers

Is this an aftermarket  radio? as yellow doesn't sound part of the cars loom colours.

There should be two power feeds, one permanently live the other only live when ignition on and in the accessory position.

Yes it's an aftermarket stereo, with a harness from halfords, worked fine in my previous galaxy but not in this one?

On aftermarket stereos the red is normally the permanet live and the yellow is ignition, if you have swopped the yellow and red wires around and it is still the same I have only two other suggestions.

The permenant live is connected to both the yellow and red wires or when you are testing the wiring you are turning of the ignition but NOT removing the key the latter matters as the radio is still provided with an ignition live even in the off position until the door is opened or the key is removed.

Best wishes

Dave

I've tried the red and yellow wires both ways and with the ignition on and off with keys in and out but it still only turns on via the stereo itself, can I connect a wire from somewhere else that is an ignition live and wire that to the head unit? I've just bought a multi meter reader so how will I find out what wires are ignition live, I've checked the cigarette socket and that always live too??

Yes I have both red and the red and brown on the car connector, they go to the yellow (battery) and red (acc) but it still doesn't work with the key, what amp fuses are meant to be used for 30 and 31?
Thanks for all your help so far.

Fuse 30 is 20 amp

Fuse 31 is 3 amp

Are you saying there's no power at the switched supply?

Yeah I think so as the stereo will only come on when you push the power button but nothing happens with the key, if that makes sence?

you need to check the supplies with your multimeter to confirm whether the problem could be between the fuse box and radio connector.

Check the brown and red wire with ignition on then off with key out.

Ok I will give it a go in the morning and see but I'm not 100% sure how to use a multi meter do I touch the red and brown wire to see if power is going through it?

You need to set the multimeter to 20dc volts.

The black probe to earth or use the brown wire on the connector and the red probe to the brown and red wire.

I did the check today and these are the readings I got :

Red and brown wire:

12.87v ignition off

12.36v ignition on

Red wire:

12.61 ignition off

12.35 ignition on red

Any ideas what this means?
