Hi All

Thinking about buying a '99 Galaxy auto. The attraction is the price, which I expect to be low because it has a problem with the auto box, and it's quite low mileage - around 120K. Normally I'd be looking for another manual but funds are very tight.

The symptoms are -

Delay/problem in changing up or down from the top gear ; struggles to get up any steep incline at speed

Anybody any suggestions what might cause this, or if I should take a chance/ run away?

Thanks in advance

Another Key Fob Question

I have a dying key fob by the looks of it on 53 plate Galaxy TDI. It's the standard 2 button fob. It works intermittently.

I have 2 keys, one without a fob one with. How interchangeable are these fobs. I have read about the steps to re-program and that there is a separate transponder chip (which I actually didn't notice when putting new batteries in, fortunately it didn't fall out).

My question is, can I buy one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-GALAXY-KUGA-S-MAX-C-MAX-FOCUS-REMOTE-KEY-FOB-FLIP-CONVERSION-CASE-UPGRADE-/251274513469?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a8120cc3d

and reporgram it? Can I interchange different fobs does the key and transponder part fit in other fobs? Do I need to know anything about the frequency they operate on?

Or am I better off looking for an exact match like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390611774801?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Any help really appreciated, thanks!

Ignition Barrel

Hi all

I will be polite in this post but some so and so broke into my Gal and damaged the locks on both front doors so that they will not turn and also pulled out and broke the ignition barrel.

Called insurance company and they have said its a right off because of the ignition barrel. Its a 2001 Y plate Gal 2.3 Ghia.

Today I put the key in the hole left by the so and so, and turned the ignition with a screwdriver and the car started straight away. So chip in key and transponder still work.

Question is, can I just buy an ignition barrel from Fords or is it not that easy to fix ?

Galaxy 1.9 Tdi Knocking Mk2

I have just bought a Ford Galaxy 53 plate 1.9 tdi. There seems to be knocking coming from under the pedals kind of area which happens mostly on gear changes but also occasionally on bumps. It's hard to replicate on bumps but seems most common (but not exclusively) during gear changes. It's a single knock not a grind or collection of knocks.

Is this a needle in a haystack or something easy to diagnose? I'm really hoping that it's something simple and not a gearbox or clutch problem. The car has been well serviced and well looked after an has done 78k.

When test driving I put it down to drop link bars but now I'm not so sure, actually petty convinced it's not with it being coincidental to changing gear.

Any advice please on what I can do to diagnose? I'm worried I've bought something requiring an expensive repair bill.

Another Wiper Problem

Right, after reading about the wiper removal, I pulled the mechanism out the car to check the spindles both seemed ok, but I stripped them down, cleaned and regreased and put back together, but the wipers are still slow on the first speed. Full speed seems fine, but on slow the wipers move there full range but not quite fast enough. I have just put flat blade wipers on could this be hindering it slightly, also the wiper arms themselves have virtually no splines on them, but once the 17mm nut is tight they don't move out of there typical movement pattern which is good. Help!
