please can any one help am pulling my hair out here.
bought w reg galaxy tdi 130 bhp.
loses power quite often when under load cannot go over 2500 revs its like the turbo is no longer there .
when i switch engine off and on problem is sorted back up to full power.
so far i have replaced the m. a. f with no effect.
air filter changed ...improved power but no change to problem.
was told it was fuel filter ...changed that........no change
have checked all pipes for splits and all are fine
have been told it could be throttle position sensor but is £90 and need some input before i splash out again.

would be very grateful for any input from you lads and lasses about how the sensor works
thanks

Sounds like the vanes are sticking in your VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbocharger) and it's tripping into limp-home mode (switching off and on again clears it).
There are numerous references to this in the forum if you search.

Hi i have had same problem with my 115 bhp, some people on here will over complicate problems , a very common fault on the vag tdi after the usual MAF meter is the T-MAP sensor, it is worth taking out giving it a really good clean in something a brake cleaner , let it dry, put it back and try the car then . The fault is normally occuring due to sensor giving wrong reading so shuts down system thinking there is to much boost, as i have said this is normally a common fault on all vag 1.9 tdi engines . sensor should cost £45-50, try Euro Car parts not main dealer if you think you need new one or failing that borrow one from another galaxy . ALL in all this will take no more than 20-30 mins, hope this helps

Sorry for a silly question but, what does the T-MAP sensor look like and where is it located (2000 90BHP tdi)? My Haynes manual is of no use at all! I have tried replacing the MAF sensor and have replaced the vaccum hoses with silicone hoses and tried cleaning the turbo and still it goes into limp mode. Thanks in advance, Dave.

My first thought is that you should get the error codes read. Use Ford as a last resort but see if someone on this site who lives near can help.

Th Tmap sensor is (I think) fitted into the return pipe from the intercooler which comes up from under the radiator and up the front of the engine then over the top to the inlet manifold vie the infamous EGR valve. Look about half way down for a wire going to a device fitted in the side of the pipe. When you get it out it will probably be covered in a messy gunk. There is probably a thin tube connection somewhere near it which feeds the pressure back to a sensor on the ECU.

AKA Odin D. Crepit

Sadly, based on the MKIII, I shall never buy another Ford.
